The inaugural Moda 360 wowed press and fashionistas at the Gabarron Foundation
Carriage House Center for the Arts. The stunning venue offered a beautiful backdrop to the the creativity and innovation of emerging talent in fashion and film, with Moda 360 artists joining the resident artists of the Carriage House. Designers from the US, UK, Egypt, Dubai, Hungary and Italy showed highlights of their alongside the talents of
designer-artists Melissa Laskin and Stephanie Whittaker, fine artists who translate their paintings on clothing. In keeping with the spirit of Moda 360, Melissa created original abstract paintings that she fashioned into skirts and paired with her t-shirt designs. Textile artist Bethany Walker brought fashion to art with her display of ceramic mosaics capturing the beauty of fabric in her multi-media creations.
Models walked a unique runway, first through city streets to Grand Central Station, then down the striking spiral staircase at the Gabarron Center. The talented designers thrilled the fashion audience, who then enjoyed an exhibit of fashion pieces surrounded by art and displayed on the work of furniture designer Manny Flaherty. The films by international
videographers showed on video screens throughout the event, and included the debut of new work by Carolina LeBrun and Oliver Morris featuring participating designers NCIIR by Tee Njoroge and Juan Pablo Martinez.
The designers impressed with their unique concept and superb execution. From the clean, architectural lines of NCIIR by Tee Njoroge to the rich colors and luxury of Natacha Arranz to the glamorous style of Imani Lia, the runway presentations represented the best of independent design. Eco and social conscience were represented in the jewelry by Alterequo, recycling
plastic bottles into wearable works of art, silk scraps meticulously strung into shimmering rainbow bracelets
and necklaces by Baharat, and classic, high style knitwear from natural and eco yarns by Eva Cammarata. Completing the fashion revolution
were the Cleopatra inspired elegance of Sara Hegezy and the bold statement jewelry by JoDeLyn London.
Press, media, buyers and fashionistas were treated to an exceptional expression of art as fashion and the art of fashion that did not disappoint.
