Danilo Gabrielli, an Italian-born designer with a unique mix of rustic Italian sensibility and classic American luxury, presented his Fall/ Winter 2012 Collection at Nolcha Fashion Week: New York February 9. Going on its sixth consecutive year, and held simultaneously with Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, Nolcha is one of New York’s leading platforms for independent fashion designers this season showcasing over twenty designers, including Gabrielli.  Nolcha Fashion Week set the runway on fire with a series of talented designers showing their fall collections.  Making his second showing, Danilo Gabrielli presented an exquisite collection of luxury sportswear.   European style and precision execution, the collection was enthusiastically received by an eager audience and filmed by Bravo and the BBC for airing.

Drawing inspiration from the glamorous 1940’s era of the likes of Greta Garbo, the Italian designer created a versatile, feminine collection.  The line consists of suits, dresses, slacks, blouses and coats in addition to highlighting his signature piece, the reversible skirt.  Gabrielli stayed true to his identity by continuing with his signature metallic finishes paired with wools, tweeds, knits and faux fur. The collection showcased a muted elegance with colors such as black, grey, silver, burgundy and winter white.

Perfectly accenting the collection were jewelry pieces by Maleku Jewelry, a collection gaining international acclaim.  Designer Ileana Rojas-Bennett collaborated with Danilo to create special pieces for this collection.  The rich jewelry complemented each piece with carefully selected color and style.   The jewelry pieces ranged from chunky strands of beads and semi-precious stones, to draped chains, and unique pendants with cultural references.

Ileana, a descendant of the Maleku tribe in Costa Rica, works with sterling and fine silver, 14, 22, and 24 K gold and semi precious stones such as blue Persian turquoise, black onyx, smoky quartz, jasper, astrophyllite, eudialyte and labradorite among others. She also uses freshwater pearls, corals, abalone, mother-of-pearl and other beauty from the depths of the sea, and incorporates seed beads, handmade glass beads, and other trade beads from the generations of many cultures.

The runway show drew an impressive audience of fashion press and professionals, and was filmed by the BBC and is set to air on Bravo.   Both collections will be featured at the Pop Up Showroom:  New York on February 19-20, 2012 at the Strand Hotel in New York.  Industry professionals interested in reviewing the collections may register for the showroom at www.showroominternational.com (Register for Showroom) or RSVP to showroominternational@gmail.com.  Come and see what everyone is talking about!
